A full programme of speakers has been arranged, including Zoë Randle, Moth Recording Co-ordinator at Moths Count; plus slide shows, specimen displays etc.
Lunch and refreshments will be available.

Event: CONSERVATION WORK PARTY
Special work party that will help conserve one of the rarest moths in the country, the Fisher's Estuarine Moth.
Help is needed in planting out Hog's Fennel plants (the larval foodplant of this species) near Thorpe-le-Soken close to the Essex coast.

Event: LUNCHTIME BUTTERFLY WALK
Site: Mill Road Cemetery, Mill Road, Cambridge
  Nick Ballard of the Friends of Mill Road Cemetery will lead a guided walk around the cemetery where a variety of general butterflies can be seen. Come and find out how the 'Friends' are creating a wildlife oasis right in the middle of Cambridge city.

Time & Meeting place: 12:30pm outside the Lodge at the SW corner of the Cemetery. The cemetery gate is next to the Anglia Ruskin University entrance at the north end of Mackenzie Road. Alternatively, an avenue of limes (next to Mackenzie Road and opposite the Sally Annes charity shop) runs north from Mill Road to the Lodge
Notes: Note that parking may be a problem in this area; multi-story CPs are located at Queen Anne’s, Parkside & the Grafton Centre - and there are a few Pay and Display places available nearby e.g. just off Mill Road in Mill Street & Mawson Road.

Site: Over, NW of Cambridge
  Come and see the 'mitigation' site which has been created to replace the habitat lost by the construction of the Guided Busway. Initial signs that the Grizzled Skipper colony may have survived are good.

Site: Devil's Dyke, Newmarket
  As part of her research project, Hilary Conlan will be leading a search for roosting Dingy Skippers and, for the sharp-eyed, their eggs. Bring along a magnifying glass or hand lens if you have one.

Event: MOONLIGHT AND MOTHS
Site: Anglesey Abbey, Gardens & Lode Mill, Cambs (Grid Ref: TL533622)
Ever wondered what the garden looks like during the evening and which animals call it home? Now's your chance to find out - join our overnight wildlife watch. Pack a tent and bring the family to enjoy this unique opportunity to stay overnight and explore the grounds with our resident expert. John Dawson, Cambridgeshire Moth recorder, will be 'hosting' the moth events.
Time & Meeting Place: 6pm (until 10:30am the next day); meet at the Visitor Centre
Getting there: The property lies 6 miles NE of Cambridge on the B1102. Signposted from A14, junction 35. Full public transport details are available on the National Trust website

Event: BUTTERFLY WALK
Site: Hadleigh Castle Country park, Benfleet Downs
Target Species: White-letter Hairstreak
  David Chandler will lead a walk through the Country Park where at this time last year he saw 15 different species of butterfly, including Marbled White.

Time & Meeting place: 11:00am. At the east end of St. Marys Road, Benfleet by the gate leading down the steps to the downs.
Public Transport: Train operator c2c run a regular train service from Fenchurch Street to Benfleet, which is just a short walk from the meeting point.
Notes: The walk itself is expected to take no longer than 90 mins. Members may wish to join the leader for lunch in one of the nearby hostelries - like the Hoy and Helmet.

Event: BUTTERFLY WALK
Site: Marks Hall Gardens & Arboretum, near Coggesghall
Target Species: Purple Emperor, Silver-washed Fritillary and possibly White Admiral
  Joe Firmin and Dr. Ted Benton will lead a guided walk around the estate where they are working alongside Natural England on the reintroduction of many butterfly species which have disappeared from East Anglia.

Public Transport: The nearest railway stations are Marks Tey and Kelvedon, both about a 15 to 20 minute taxi away. There is no suitable bus service
Directions: By car: Take A120 and turn north off the Coggeshall by-pass on B1024 then take the first left turn (half mile - signed Marks Hall) and follow the lane a mile or so to the car park.
Notes: The normal admission charge will be waived for this guided walk.
Light lunches, snacks, etc. are available at the Visitor Centre

Site: Bourn to Kingston Old Railway LNR (10 miles West of Cambridge)
  In conjunction with the Branch, Cambridgeshire County Council are hosting a Butterfly walk around the Kingston old railway LNR
Time & Meeting place: 10am at the Nature Reserve located on the B1046 road between Toft & Bourn Grid ref:TL338558.
Expect an easy walk around the reserve of 2-3 hours.

  Come and enjoy a stroll around Essex's largest area of heathland, looking for a variety of butterflies including the Small Copper which is usually seen in good numbers at this time of year.

Event: BUTTERFLY WALK
Site: Patmore Heath (5 miles NW of Bishop's Stortford)
  A chance to be shown the late summer butterflies (including Small Copper hopefully) and wildlife of this important HMWT Reserve.
Patmore Heath is one of the few remaining remnants of acid grass heathland left in Hertfordshire and Middlesex.

Time & Meeting Place: 2:00pm. Meet at the reserve sign/notice board, which can be seen from the road. Expect to finish about 4pm.
Getting there: From the A120 between Bishop's Stortford and Puckeridge. Turn north at the Little Hadham traffic lights and follow the road for approx 2 miles. Take the small right hand turn next to the Catherine Wheel PH and follow for approx half a mile.
Public Transport: None suitable
